About Me

My photo
Forest, Virginia, United States
A long time ago, my sophomore English teacher, Father William Campbell, saw something in my writing and predicted that I would someday become a newspaper columnist. He suggested the perfect title for my column--"Leaves of the Palm." Now that I have a little extra time on my hands I've decided to put Father Campbell's prediction to the test. I'm going to start using this blog site not just to reprint opinion pieces I've published elsewhere but to try to get more of my ideas and opinions out there. Feedback is welcome. RE my current News & Advance Column (Dec. 12, 2021)

One of my far-flung correspondents shared this reaction to my column:

"Now the right says it's my body, and I choose whether or not to get a coronavirus vaccination.  Also, the right says her body choices are our choices. Again, they're hypocritical."

My thought for today—December 15, 2021

I have to wonder if both the environmental threat represented by the Keystone Pipeline and the economic impact of shutting it down have both been exaggerated. Either way, whatever points Biden may have made with his environmental supporters have been outweighed by the ammo he gave his critics. It seems to me Biden may just be too idealistic and not pragmatic enough to be an effective president. —S/f, EFP
